Mercedes Schlapp's role as White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't an easy one. In her role as the White House's Strategist Communications Advisor Schlapp has to face a variety of challenges. The president is his own communications director. Schlapp has managed to stay in the right frame of mind and stay on top of her game by working closely alongside White House teams in political issues and legislative affairs, as well the larger communications team. The issue came up in March when she received a flurry of attention, when it became known that her name would be considered a possible candidate to replace Hope Hicks as the director of communication.
